K&L Coastal Retreats was founded by Kent and Laura, two vacation rental owners who shared a dream: to run a successful rental business while truly living in the moment—without being tethered to a phone 24/7.
Driven by a commitment to quality service and meaningful experiences, Kent and Laura built K&L Coastal Retreats with a unique approach. Their vision allows them and their guests to disconnect when it matters most, creating space to savor life’s precious moments. Prioritizing time with family and friends is at the heart of everything K&L Coastal Retreats stands for.
Through a collaborative approach, K&L Coastal Retreats delivers a high standard of service and seamless guest communication, ensuring accountability and responsiveness across every listing. This balance not only enhances the guest experience but also supports employee well-being by minimizing burnout.

Originally from New Hampshire and Virginia, Laura and Thann both separately found themselves in Jacksonville, Florida for work in 2010. Thann had just completed flight school for the U.S. Navy and Laura landed here with Teach for America. Less than a year later they met and the rest is history. They've both lived and traveled abroad extensively since then, but have come to find that Jacksonville is their home. From their first home in Neptune Beach, to properties in Historic Springfield and Jacksonville Beach - their property hobby has turned into a passion! Over the years they find themselves constantly taking on home projects, historic renovations, managing rental properties, and hosting guests. Being homeowners, rental property owners, and well-seasoned global AirBnB guests, they know their experience can help others who are just starting and answer the same questions they had years ago. As this has organically transformed into a "job" we hope to continue doing what we love with others who have similar goals. The saying is cliché but true, "If you love what you're doing, you'll never work a day in your life."
Kent, a Florida native, retired early from the fire department to embark on a new adventure in vacation rental management. His wife, Christelle—originally from South Africa but raised in Ocala from a young age—has been his rock through this journey from firefighting to business ownership. The two first met at the Jax Beaches Oktoberfest, where Christelle found it hard to look away from him. Their last dance ended with a memorable fall to the floor, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Their lives took an unexpected turn when they invested in their first property, Seas the Day. What others saw as a teardown, Kent and Christelle saw as a charming 70-year-old beach cottage worth restoring to its original splendor. The renovation was both captivating and challenging, but nothing was more powerful than the feeling of bringing new life to an old home. Inspired by the process and the potential of their labor of love, they took the leap.
